"It is that we consider our soul to be like a castle made entirely out of a diamond
or of very clear crystal, in which there are many rooms, just as in heaven
there are many dwelling places.”

(Saint Teresa of Avila, Interior Castle, p. 283, illusion to John 14:2).

A Note from the Author and Game Creator

"Today in America castles at the Disney theme parks, princess costumes, wizards and magic fill the imaginative hearts and minds of our children. While they can create happy play times, a young mind may believe that this type of play can be realized concretely in some future reality. It is many a little girl who “wants to be a princess when she grows up.” In the end, the entertainment of Disney, that promises a place “where dreams come true” and where “magic happens” points to, as St. Teresa of Avila said, “building castles in the air."
It is my hope that by bringing The Diamond Castle to young children, it will help them to make the distinction between the real castle that lies within themselves and leads them to know and love God, and the castles that are just for momentary pleasure. One castle lasts forever, the other castles fall and there is only one real King, Christ Jesus."
Excerpt from the Introduction to The Diamond Castle by Theresa M. Lynn, M.T.S.

The Mission of The Diamond Castle Project

The mission of The Diamond Castle Project is to provide catechesis on the spiritual life for children ages seven to Confirmation. Introduce the topic of the spiritual life or St. Teresa of Avila to your child or students with the resources of The Diamond Castle Project.

Adults have explored and reflected for centuries on the teachings and doctrines on the presence of God in the soul as described in Saint Teresa of Avila’s great works, The Way of Perfection and the Interior Castle.  In them she describes the soul to be “like a diamond castle.”  Now, with the textbook and game of The Diamond Castle Project you can Introduce your children or students to this important teaching.
Children are always exited to explore this metaphor. With a parent or a teacher's guidance, they can learn what the beauty and dignity of their soul means for them and their life.  The Diamond Castle book includes a 43 page of text, made accessible to children through large font and simple sentences.
  • The “room of self-knowledge”

  • Symbols for sin and distractions from prayer
  • The importance of the Our Father prayer
